The small historic plantation
town of Paia, just 15 minutes from Kahului, has recently enjoyed a mini-renaissance,
due in part to its close access to some of Hawaii's best windsurfing at nearby Ho'okipa
Beach. Travelers to Paia, the last town on the road to Hana, will find a young and
spirited beach community with an interesting and unconventional melange of health
food stores, boutiques, craft guilds, and restaurants, all casual in the extreme.
Discover beaches still untouched by hotel development, take a day trip to Hana,
or tour Maui's upcountry - this is a great location from which to explore the less

HANA
Tucked away on the isolated coast of
east Maui, Hana remains geographically aloof and serene in its splendid isolation.
Visitors to this remote Hawaiian community will feel a great sense of accomplishment
in completing the 52-mile-long twisting, turning, and cliff-edge journey from Kahului
that can take three hours or more depending upon the number of "beauty" stops taken
along the way. When the sign says "narrow, winding road", believe it! While the
drive is an experience in itself, the sublime natural beauty and low-key ambience
of Hana is best appreciated by those who plan to stay on after the exodus of day-trippers.
Remember that Hana is remote and, for hosts and guests alike, life's essentials
are sometimes harder to come by.

LAHAINA / MAALAEA
Much of the historic town
of Lahaina, once a thriving whaling port, has now been declared a national historic
landmark. Located just south of Kaanapali on Maui's western shore, Lahaina was the
first royal capital of Hawaii. Along the four main mile-long streets that make up
